The health department of Gurugram district in Haryana, India, has launched a free vaccination campaign against human papillomavirus (HPV) for girls aged 14. The initiative began on February 26, 2024, at various health facilities, including the Civil Hospital in Sector 10A and sub-divisional hospitals in Sohna, Pataudi, and Farrukh Nagar. The program aims to administer Gardasil-4 shots, which protect against four high-risk HPV types associated with cervical cancer. The first phase targets the immunization of approximately 30,000 girls by May 31, 2024. So far, around 316 girls have received the vaccine, but turnout has been hindered by vaccine hesitancy and a lack of awareness. The health department is collaborating with local schools to enhance outreach efforts, encouraging parents and students to participate in the program. They have conducted about 62,000 screenings to detect cervical cancer in the district since April 2025.
