The Congress party has accused the Rajasthan government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of protecting the accused in the alleged gang rape of a 15-year-old Dalit girl in Ajmer. Rajendra Pal Gautam, chairman of the AICC Scheduled Castes Department, highlighted that the police failed to act despite the survivor's statement and multiple complaints. The incident, which occurred in July 2024 but only came to light months later when the survivor became pregnant, has raised serious concerns about police inaction. A Zero FIR was filed in New Delhi and later transferred to Ajmer, yet only one of the three accused has been arrested after nearly eight months. Gautam also reported an attack on the survivor's family on March 16, after they refused to settle with the accused. He accused the police of violating the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by failing to provide necessary protection and not taking action against responsible officials. The Congress is demanding immediate security and compensation for the survivor, as well as accountability for the police. Additionally, Gautam expressed gratitude to Rahul Gandhi for advocating the withdrawal of cases related to the 2018 protests against the dilution of the SC/ST Act. Gandhi is set to lead a marathon in Delhi on April 12 to commemorate B. R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary.
