Ger Carriere, an Indigenous singer-songwriter from Saskatchewan, has intertwined her music with her cultural identity. Since childhood, she has expressed herself through song, stating, “Music has always been something that was a part of me.” Her sound, which fuses pop, rock, folk, and EDM, has gained recognition, especially with her hit single 'Can I Be Her,' which reached No. 1 on SiriusXM’s Indigenous Music Countdown in January. Carriere released her self-titled EP in 2020 and is set to release her follow-up album, 'Be Hotter,' on November 4. Beyond her musical endeavors, Carriere is dedicated to inspiring Indigenous youth, particularly those from remote communities like her hometown of Cumberland House. She believes in showcasing that success is achievable despite limited resources. Carriere advocates for Indigenous representation across industries, emphasizing the importance of seeing oneself reflected in various fields. As she dreams of performing on grand stages such as Madison Square Garden, her primary goal remains to pave the way for the next generation of Indigenous artists.
