The original 'Jigarthanda' was released in 2014 and became a sleeper hit, establishing a cult following due to its unique storytelling. In 2023, Subbaraj directed 'Jigarthanda DoubleX,' which also received critical acclaim. Speaking to News18, he expressed enthusiasm about the third part, stating, 'Yes, I’ll make the third part of Jigarthanda. I may not make it very soon but it will be made some time down the line.' Alongside this announcement, Subbaraj's production venture 'Neelira' has recently hit theaters, receiving positive feedback from industry figures including actor Suriya. The film's success is seen as pivotal for independent filmmakers within the Tamil film community. Co-producer Kaarthekeyen Santhanam highlighted the significance of 'Neelira,' stating that its success could pave the way for many artists and storytellers from the Eelam community, emphasizing the potential for indie films to achieve commercial viability.
