The police arrested two suspects, the victim's father-in-law, aged 48, and uncle, aged 40, who allegedly felt humiliated by the interfaith marriage. They conspired to kill Jayant, leading to an attack involving four other unidentified men. Jayant was lured to a meeting near the Banthla railway crossing, where he was assaulted.
