Namita Thapar (48), a well-known entrepreneur from Shark Tank India, recently opened up about experiencing a 'food baby' or temporary bloating after consuming heavy meals, particularly toor dal khichdi. In her Instagram post, she explained that such bloating can occur after eating foods that are rich in complex carbohydrates and fiber. Dietitian Amreen Sheikh from KIMS Hospitals in Thane elaborated that pulses like toor dal can lead to gas production during digestion, resulting in a feeling of fullness or abdominal swelling. Sheikh noted that moong dal is often easier to digest due to its softer fiber structure, making it a preferable option for those sensitive to bloating. She emphasized that while mild bloating is common, it should not deter individuals from consuming nutritious foods. Instead, introducing these foods gradually, paying attention to portion sizes, and using digestive spices can improve tolerance. Sheikh further advised that if bloating is persistent or accompanied by other symptoms, consulting a healthcare professional is advisable.
