The Chancellor's office has requested the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University (PU) to take action regarding a complaint about faculty recruitment at MCM DAV College for Women in Chandigarh, which has been operating without a regular principal for over 18 months. The complaint, submitted by Mohali-based academic Anil Bhatia on March 30, questions the validity of the recruitment process under these circumstances. The college's screening committee is currently evaluating applications for 11 assistant professor positions, which include five permanent and six part-time roles across various subjects. Despite the absence of a regular principal, PU officials, including Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig, argue that the presence of university nominees on the committee is sufficient authorization to proceed with recruitment. However, PU has previously stated that officiating principals can only serve for a maximum of six months, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the ongoing process. The Chancellor's office has instructed PU to communicate the actions taken directly to Bhatia, who is a retired professor from a PU-affiliated college.
