Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of Jammu and Kashmir reiterated the importance of the 1979 agreement with Punjab regarding the Shahpur Kandi dam project, which guarantees J&K 20% of the power generated. During a legislative assembly session, he responded to queries about compensation for affected families, stating that a total of ₹85.48 crore has been allocated, with ₹14.32 crore still pending. He highlighted that delays in compensation disbursement are largely due to missing documents from landowners. Abdullah also mentioned that efforts are underway to secure employment for 816 affected families in line with the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy. On a separate note, he assured that Jammu and Kashmir has adequate stocks of essential supplies, including fuel, for the next 10 to 15 days, despite potential international disruptions.
