In Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, India, police arrested four individuals for allegedly printing and circulating counterfeit ₹500 notes. The suspects were identified as Hariram Lodh (42), Arjun (19), Gurucharan Singh alias Vijay (44), and Sakim alias Suraj (35), hailing from Bahraich and Lakhimpur Kheri districts. The arrests occurred during a patrol on the night of Friday to Saturday, following a tip-off. Police intercepted the suspects near the Gujarati Purwa intersection and recovered 23 counterfeit ₹500 notes along with a color printer used in the operation. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to running an exchange scam, offering three fake notes for one genuine note in local markets. Investigators are looking into the possibility of a wider network involved in illegal financial activities, particularly given the proximity of the suspects' locations to the porous Indo-Nepal border. Notably, Gurucharan Singh has a criminal history with seven cases registered against him.
