The Indian Navy has officially commissioned the INS Taragiri (F41), its fourth stealth frigate, on Friday. Built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, the 6,670-tonne warship boasts over 75% indigenous content, reflecting India's advancing defense industrial capabilities. Designed for versatility in maritime operations, Taragiri features a modern design with a reduced radar cross-section, enhancing its stealth in combat. Its weapon suite includes the BrahMos surface-to-surface missile, MFSTAR radar, and MRSAM systems, making it a formidable asset in naval warfare.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted that the commissioning of Taragiri symbolizes India's growing maritime power and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India by 2047. With India's coastline exceeding 11,000 kilometers, Singh noted that a capable Navy is essential for national development and security, especially as 95% of India's trade relies on maritime routes. The commissioning comes at a time of heightened global tensions, particularly due to the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which has disrupted key maritime passages like the Strait of Hormuz. Singh reiterated that the Indian Navy plays a crucial role in protecting national interests and ensuring the safety of trade routes amid these uncertainties.
