The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) successfully thwarted a significant terror plot by arresting four individuals connected to a Pakistan-based network. The suspects, identified as Saqib alias ‘Devil’ (25), Arbab (20), Vikas Pehlawat alias ‘Raunak’ (27), and Lokesh alias ‘Papla Pandit’ (19), were apprehended near Lucknow Railway Station just before they intended to damage railway signals and other infrastructure. The gang was reportedly in contact with handlers in Pakistan and Afghanistan, utilizing social media platforms like Telegram and Instagram for coordination. They had conducted reconnaissance missions across various cities, including Ghaziabad, Aligarh, and Lucknow, and had previously engaged in minor arson incidents for which they received payments via QR codes. During the arrest, authorities recovered a canister containing inflammable material, seven smartphones, 24 pamphlets, and Aadhaar cards from the suspects. An FIR has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. This operation not only disrupted a potential attack but also exposed a criminal network involved in anti-national activities in Uttar Pradesh.
