In a significant crackdown, the food and civil supplies department, in collaboration with local police, has uncovered an illegal liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling operation in the Ganesh Nagar and Janta Nagar areas of Ludhiana, Punjab, India. During the raid, officials seized a domestic LPG cylinder along with gas transfer equipment and refilling tools from a shop allegedly involved in unauthorized gas transfer. The operation was deemed a serious safety hazard, violating established LPG norms. Two individuals, including the shop owner, have been booked, and investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the cylinders and any wider networks involved in this illegal trade. This action follows increased scrutiny on LPG distribution in the district due to complaints about delayed deliveries and concerns over black marketing. District food and supplies controller (West) Sartaaj Singh Cheema emphasized the importance of strict surveillance and regular enforcement drives to combat the misuse of domestic LPG, which affects fair distribution to genuine consumers. The department has pledged to continue its efforts against unauthorized LPG handling and black-market sales, particularly as households rely on timely cylinder supplies.
