On Monday, a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, sentenced three operatives of the Al Qaeda affiliate Ansar Ghazwatul Hind to life imprisonment for their involvement in a conspiracy to wage war against the Indian government and execute terror attacks. The convicted individuals—Mushiruddin, Minhaz, and Tauheed—were found guilty of planning bomb blasts at crowded locations and sensitive installations in the state. The court also imposed fines on the operatives, with Minhaz and Mushiruddin fined ₹1.42 lakh (approximately $1,700 USD) each, and Tauheed fined ₹85,000 (approximately $1,020 USD). The case originated from a report filed by Anti-Terrorism Squad Inspector Sushil Kumar Singh on July 11, 2021, following intelligence about recruitment efforts linked to an Al Qaeda operative from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The investigation led to the recovery of explosives and firearms from Minhaz's residence in Lucknow. The NIA subsequently took over the case, presenting extensive evidence, including testimonies from 42 witnesses and numerous documents. Legal proceedings against other suspects involved in the conspiracy are still ongoing.
