Tanvir Ahmad Chopan, a young man from Banihal in Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir, has been missing for two days after allegedly being attacked by cow vigilantes while transporting a cow and her calves. His family claims he was assaulted despite having the necessary permissions. Protests erupted on the National Highway, blocking traffic as locals demanded justice. Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and detained four individuals identified by witnesses. Banihal's Senior Superintendent of Police, Arun Gupta, confirmed that eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage indicate that Chopan jumped into a canal during the altercation. His father, Salam-ud-Din, who works in the police department, expressed concern over his son's safety and called for accountability for those responsible. A delegation from the Gujjar-Bakerwal community also submitted a memorandum to local authorities, urging for justice and an end to violence against nomadic communities.
