Queen Elizabeth Elementary School in Kensington, Prince Edward Island, is facing significant overcrowding as its current enrollment of 350 students exceeds the school's capacity. The P.E.I. Public Schools Branch has proposed adding six classrooms and a minimum of eight student support areas to accommodate the growing student population, which could increase by approximately 50 students in the coming years. Principal Jaime Moase highlighted the school's creative use of existing space, noting that staff have repurposed storage rooms and meeting areas for teaching. The issue was also raised in the P.E.I. Legislature by Kensington-Malpeque MLA Matthew MacKay, who emphasized the need for a long-term solution as Kensington is one of the fastest-growing communities in P.E.I. Education Minister Robin Croucher acknowledged the ongoing investments in school infrastructure but stated that it would be premature to discuss expansion plans until the Public Schools Branch completes its consultation and formal recommendations. Moase expressed optimism about the expansion, believing it would enhance the school's role as a community hub and better meet students' needs.
