The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced significant changes to its curriculum, set to take effect from the 2026-27 academic session. The three-language formula will be mandatory for students starting in Class VI, requiring them to learn at least two Indian languages. This initiative aligns with the National Curriculum Framework under the National Education Policy. In addition, a two-tier system for mathematics and science will be introduced in Class IX. All students will take a common three-hour examination worth 80 marks, while those opting for advanced proficiency can take an additional one-hour examination worth 25 marks. The advanced examination will assess higher-order thinking and deeper conceptual understanding, with results recorded separately on mark sheets for students scoring 50% or above. This phased approach aims to enhance multilingual education and cater to diverse learning needs.
