In a groundbreaking achievement for Tripura's healthcare sector, the Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital in Agartala successfully performed two consecutive kidney transplants on March 30 and 31. This marks the first instance of such procedures being carried out back-to-back in the state's history, bringing the total number of successful transplants to seven. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami credited Chief Minister Manik Saha for this milestone, highlighting the collaborative efforts of medical teams from Agartala and a private hospital in Imphal, Manipur. The first transplant involved a 36-year-old man from Baikhora in South Tripura, who received a kidney from his childhood friend. The second transplant was performed on a 33-year-old resident of Champaknagar in West Tripura, with his father as the donor. Both surgeries were completed with the patients in stable condition. This achievement underscores the Tripura government's commitment to improving healthcare services, with ongoing support from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, to further enhance medical infrastructure in the state.
