During a rally in Gangarampur, Dakshin Dinajpur district, Union Home Minister Amit Shah (BJP) stated that the party will resolve the Gorkha issue in the Darjeeling hills through constitutional means, avoiding any division of West Bengal. He criticized the Aam Janata Unnayan Party and its founder, Humayun Kabir, alleging connections with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Shah pledged to enhance agricultural conditions by ensuring better pricing for farmers and announced the construction of significant infrastructure projects in north Bengal, including an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a 600-bed cancer hospital, and educational institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM). He also committed to including the Rajbanshi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and developing an eco-adventure hub in Darjeeling.
