Rutgers Athletics has announced the promotion of BJ Merriam to the position of Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director and Chief Compliance Officer. In this dual role, Merriam will be instrumental in guiding strategies related to revenue allocation and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiatives. He will collaborate with various campus partners, including the Office of General Counsel and Financial Aid, to ensure regulatory compliance and operational alignment. Rutgers Athletic Director Keli Zinn praised Merriam's leadership, emphasizing his integrity and strategic vision. Merriam will continue to lead the Office of Athletics Compliance, overseeing NCAA and Big Ten compliance matters, risk management, and policy development. His previous experience at Rutgers includes roles such as Director of Compliance and Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance. Additionally, he has served at Rider University and other institutions, enhancing his expertise in collegiate athletics compliance.
