Vinesh Chandel, a director of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), was remanded in 10-day custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after being arrested in Delhi on allegations of money laundering linked to illegal coal mining in West Bengal. The ED's investigation, initiated based on a Delhi Police case, uncovered significant financial irregularities involving I-PAC, including the alleged laundering of ₹50 crore through hawala channels and the issuance of bogus invoices. Chandel, who holds a 33% stake in I-PAC, was arrested following raids on April 2 that targeted his residence and the offices of other I-PAC officials, including Rishi Raj Singh and Vijay Nair. The ED claims that approximately ₹20 crore in proceeds from the coal mining racket were funneled to I-PAC. The situation has drawn political attention, with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accusing the ED of obstructing her party's operations and attempting to seize sensitive election strategy documents. I-PAC has emphasized its commitment to professional political consulting and has expressed concerns about the implications of the ED's actions.
