The Jharkhand High Court has directed the Jharkhand government to submit a supplementary affidavit regarding the investigation into the alleged transfusion of HIV-infected blood to six minor thalassemia patients at Chaibasa Sadar Hospital's Blood Bank on October 25, 2025. The court, led by Justice Rangon Mukhopadhyay, emphasized the urgency of the matter, requesting a detailed report by April 21, 2026, to ensure accountability for those responsible. A writ petition filed by Deepika Hembram and others called for the registration of a First Information Report (FIR), which was registered on February 6, 2026. Despite the FIR, the court expressed concern over the lack of progress in the investigation, which could jeopardize the children's futures. The Jharkhand Assembly Speaker had previously given the health minister, Dr. Irfan Ansari, 15 days to present the investigation report, amid claims that the inquiry is complex and time-consuming. The state government has stated that the children were not transfused with HIV-infected blood, prompting accusations of a cover-up from opposition members. The health minister assured that compensation of ₹2 lakh (approximately $2,400 USD) has been provided to each affected family.
