The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India, has achieved a significant milestone by being ranked first in Asia and 18th globally in dermatology by EduRank for 2026. This accomplishment highlights PGI's sustained excellence, as it retains its top position in Asia for the third year in a row, improving its global ranking from 19th last year. Prof. Vivek Lal, Director of PGI, expressed pride in this recognition, attributing it to the institute's commitment to academic excellence, innovative research, and patient-centered care. The rankings are based on an analysis of 5.26 million citations from 329,000 academic publications across 806 universities in Asia, showcasing the depth and quality of PGI's research. Notably, 14 institutions from the United States, including Harvard and Johns Hopkins, rank above PGI globally, underscoring its elite status. Prof. Sanjeev Handa, Head of the Dermatology Department, emphasized the teamwork and dedication of his staff, who manage an average of 450 outpatient visits daily while conducting impactful research. EduRank evaluates over 14,000 universities worldwide, reinforcing PGI's position as a leader in dermatology and medical education.
