In early March, Bagalur Police in Bengaluru arrested 21-year-old Kanish for assaulting auto-rickshaw driver Darshan and stealing valuables worth over ₹3 lakh (approximately $3,600 USD). Kanish, a reported drug addict, escaped from a de-addiction centre along with a minor, stealing a staff member's mobile phone to book a ride through the Rapido platform. On March 1, Darshan received a booking request for a trip to Devanahalli Airport. After picking up Kanish and the minor, they diverted him to a secluded area, where they attacked him with a knife, injuring him severely and stealing ₹28,000 in cash, two mobile phones, and the autorickshaw. Darshan was later hospitalized, and the stolen vehicle was sold in Kolar for ₹5,000. The police are continuing their investigation to trace the minor involved.
