The Supreme Court of India has cleared the way for Adani Enterprises Ltd's ₹14,543 crore resolution plan for Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL), dismissing a challenge from Vedanta Ltd. The court upheld decisions made by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), which had previously approved Adani's plan. However, the court mandated that the committee overseeing the resolution must seek NCLAT approval before undertaking significant actions, with a hearing set for April 10. Vedanta, which claims to have submitted a higher bid of ₹12,505.85 crore, argues that the process lacked fairness and transparency. Despite this, Adani's plan received 93.8% approval from financial creditors, including major backing from the National Asset Reconstruction Co. Ltd (NARCL). The resolution plan is expected to provide a recovery of approximately 24% against the total claims of ₹60,637 crore. Jaiprakash Associates holds valuable assets, including land across Noida and Greater Noida, making it an attractive acquisition for infrastructure-focused firms.
