In Bokaro district, Jharkhand, an accountant identified as Kaushal Kumar Pandey has been arrested for allegedly embezzling over ₹6 crore (approximately $720,000 USD) from the treasury's salary disbursement account. Initially reported as ₹4.29 crore, investigations revealed that the total amount withdrawn exceeded ₹6 crore. The Bokaro Deputy Commissioner, Ajay Nath Jha, stated that the withdrawals were made in the names of several individuals, including a retired police havildar, Upendra Singh. The fraudulent activity was discovered through an inquiry into the e-Kuber Bill Management System, which showed 63 withdrawals over 25 months. Following the seriousness of the case, a four-member inquiry team has been established to ensure accountability and investigate further. The state government is also conducting its own investigation under a zero-tolerance policy for such illegal activities.
