In a recent directive, private schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, have been mandated to limit fee hikes to a maximum of 7.23% for the 2026-27 academic session. This decision, made by the District Fee Regulatory Committee chaired by District Magistrate Medha Roopam, follows the formula of Consumer Price Index (CPI) plus 5%. To alleviate financial strain on parents, schools cannot force students to purchase uniforms, books, or materials from specific vendors and are encouraged to use NCERT textbooks. Additionally, schools must maintain the same uniform for five years unless changes are approved by the committee. Transparency is emphasized, with schools required to publish fee hike details on their websites. Violations of these regulations could result in fines of up to ₹1 lakh (approximately $1,200 USD) for first offenses and ₹5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) for subsequent violations, along with potential loss of recognition. Furthermore, schools with swimming pools must comply with safety regulations and ensure appropriate coaching staff.
