The Maharashtra public health department suspended three senior officials on April 10, 2023, due to alleged dereliction of duty. The suspended officials include Dr. Prashant Wadikar, civil surgeon of Kolhapur district, Namdeo More, chief administrative officer in the deputy director’s office in Kolhapur, and Dr. Supriya Deshmukh, assistant director of health services in Pune. They are facing action under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979, for administrative lapses during their tenures. A departmental inquiry has been ordered to investigate the extent of their responsibilities. During their suspension, the officials are prohibited from taking up private employment or engaging in business activities, with violations considered misconduct. They will receive a subsistence allowance and other admissible benefits as per the relevant rules governing suspension.
