In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) achieved a historic victory by winning 99 out of 140 seats, breaking the long-standing tradition of alternating power between political parties in the state. Led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the LDF's vote share rose to 45.28%, an increase from 43.35% in 2016, and a significant improvement from its performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In contrast, the United Democratic Front (UDF) saw a slight increase in vote share but faced a notable decline compared to its earlier Lok Sabha results. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) lost its sole seat in the Assembly, with a reduced vote share of 12.47%. Looking ahead to the 2026 elections, several competitive battles are emerging, particularly in Kottarakara, Nemom, and Vattiyurkavu, as political dynamics shift and voter sentiments evolve.
