Sunny Joseph, born on August 18, 1952, is a seasoned politician and lawyer who has served as the three-time MLA for Peravoor in Kannur district, Kerala, India, since 2011. Recently appointed as the president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), he takes over from K Sudhakaran as the party prepares for the state assembly elections on April 9. Joseph's leadership is seen as pivotal in reconnecting with the Christian community, a significant voter base for the Congress party. He has a long history with the party, starting his political journey with the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and later leading the Kannur District Congress Committee. Joseph's electoral success includes defeating senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader KK Shailaja in the 2011 elections, securing 48.1% of the votes against her 45.1%.
