In a significant move to tackle Bengaluru's chronic road problems, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has mandated the procurement of dedicated pothole-filling machines by its five city corporations. During a coordination meeting, Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao emphasized the need for faster and standardized repairs on both arterial and interior roads. These machines, which can repair asphalt defects such as potholes and cracks in under 2 minutes, operate with minimal manual intervention, enhancing efficiency in road maintenance. Rao also raised concerns about roads being left unrestored after being dug up by various agencies, instructing officials to identify these areas for immediate repair. To ensure accountability, permissions for road-cutting must go through the MARCS software system, and corporations are authorized to recover costs from agencies that fail to restore roads. Additionally, environmental issues related to sewage inflow into the K-100 water channel are being addressed by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, which has been tasked with implementing corrective measures.
