According to newly released data from Statistics Canada, 58% of Canadians without biological children plan to have kids in 2024, an increase from 52% in 2021. This trend is especially pronounced among young Canadians aged 15 to 24, where the intention to have children rose significantly. The overall share of individuals planning to expand their families climbed from 53% to 64%. Notably, 25% of Canadians with children plan to have at least one more. The increase is largely driven by young women, whose intentions rose from 50% to 63%. Interestingly, unmarried Canadians not in common-law relationships also showed rising intentions, increasing from 48% to 56%. In terms of regional differences, Ontario leads with 48% of residents planning to have children, while British Columbia saw a decline in desired family size to 1.9 children.
