Apple is gearing up to unveil its first smart glasses, known internally as the N50, with a targeted launch in 2027. This marks a significant shift from the company's previous ambitious plans for augmented reality devices. The smart glasses will feature acetate frames in various styles, including rectangular and circular designs, all developed in-house to differentiate from competitors. A notable aspect of the N50 is its camera system, which utilizes vertically oriented oval lenses, allowing the glasses to interpret surroundings and interact with a revamped Siri in iOS 27. Unlike immersive AR devices, these glasses are designed for everyday use, enabling functions such as photo and video capture, phone call handling, and music playback. This initiative is part of Apple's broader strategy to integrate AI into wearables, including camera-equipped AirPods and a wearable pendant, with the smart glasses serving as a foundational step into the wearables market.
