In a significant ruling, the Delhi Motor Accident Claims Tribunal awarded ₹2.72 crore (approximately $327,000 USD) to Khushwant Kapoor, a 19-year-old man left paralysed following a road accident on April 26, 2023. The tribunal, presided over by Ruchika Singla, found that Kapoor was struck by a taxi while riding his motorcycle near Vikas Marg in New Delhi. The tribunal concluded that the accident was caused by the negligent driving of the taxi driver, Harish Madan, and dismissed claims of false implication against him. Kapoor's injuries resulted in a 100% permanent neurological disability, preventing him from working in the future. The tribunal awarded compensation for various expenses, including ₹90.3 lakh for attendant charges, as Kapoor requires constant care due to his condition. The tribunal ordered IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company Limited to deposit the compensation amount, as the offending vehicle was insured at the time of the accident.
