In a decisive move to enhance road safety, the Uttar Pradesh Police has removed five station house officers from their positions due to their failure to effectively manage road accidents. This decision was made during a high-level review meeting chaired by Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna. The meeting assessed the performance of the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) scheme, which aims to monitor and reduce accidents in 487 identified accident-prone areas across the state. While the initiative has generally yielded positive outcomes, 46 police stations reported an increase in accidents, with five stations experiencing a notable rise, prompting disciplinary actions against the officers in charge. The removed officers were stationed at Cholapur, Campierganj, Chhibramau, Ramsanehi Ghat, and Sikarara. Furthermore, inquiries have been ordered against traffic circle officers in Barabanki and Jaunpur. DGP Krishna also directed officials to strengthen traffic management and ensure effective implementation of the City-Reducing Traffic Congestion scheme, currently piloted in 20 districts. He stressed the importance of preparedness for upcoming festivals, better grievance redressal, and proactive policing strategies to maintain law and order.
