During the closing ceremony of the 74th BN Mullick Memorial All India Police Football Championship 2026 at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy raised alarms over the increasing trend of drug abuse among educated youth. He urged society to reflect on the factors leading young people away from sports and emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in guiding them towards positive activities. Reddy identified drug addiction and cyber crimes as major challenges for law enforcement, stating that the nature of crime is evolving, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) playing a dual role. He expressed concern that bright students are succumbing to drug use and stressed that abandoning sports fields is detrimental. Drawing a parallel with Punjab's drug issues, he vowed that Telangana would not follow the same path. Reddy also announced plans for the Young India Sports University, a Public-Private Partnership initiative aimed at fostering sports among youth, and criticized India's Olympic performance compared to South Korea.
