Historically, previous truces have been unofficial and often disregarded, with localized halts primarily for humanitarian reasons. The current ceasefire proposal comes amid significant military setbacks for Russia, particularly affecting its oil export revenues. Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding Russian activities in the High North maritime region, with British officials warning of potential threats to undersea cables and pipelines. UK Defence Minister John Healey underscored that any damage to critical infrastructure would be met with serious consequences.
