Sarkarwada police in Maharashtra have filed a 12th FIR against Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman, for allegedly cheating Vishal Barke, an onion trader from Sinnar, out of over ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD). The FIR, lodged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), stems from claims that Kharat purchased land for an old-age home at a significantly undervalued price of ₹22.25 lakh (roughly $27,000 USD) in 2019, failing to construct the promised facility and instead transferring ownership to his daughter. Barke also alleges that Kharat coerced him into paying wages for laborers and sold him tamarind seeds under false pretenses. Kharat is already in police custody facing serious charges, including alleged rape and forced abortion, with a Special Investigation Team looking into these cases.
