In a significant move to support exporters, the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) in India has issued a directive requiring ports to immediately pass on all fee concessions. This April 8 advisory comes in response to escalating logistics costs caused by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have disrupted shipping routes. The DG Shipping has specifically instructed port authorities to extend relief on various charges, including detention, ground rent, and reefer fees, directly to exporters. Notably, the advisory mandates that these benefits be provided upfront, eliminating the need for refund-based mechanisms that can delay financial relief. This approach aims to enhance cost transparency and prevent exporters from experiencing cash flow issues during uncertain global conditions. The advisory also acknowledges the increasing War Risk Premium (WRP), which has further burdened exporters amid ongoing crises in vital maritime corridors.
