InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, has revised its fuel charges for all flights effective from April 2, in response to a 130% increase in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. The airline noted that the surge in fuel costs is primarily due to supply disruptions caused by the ongoing Iran-US conflict, particularly affecting the Strait of Hormuz. For domestic flights, the fuel charge will vary based on distance: ₹275 for flights up to 500 km, ₹400 for 501-1,000 km, ₹600 for 1,001-1,500 km, ₹800 for 1,501-2,000 km, and ₹950 for distances over 2,000 km. For international flights, the highest charge is set at ₹10,000 for passengers traveling to the UK and Europe, while flights to Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East will see charges ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 depending on the distance. IndiGo expressed gratitude for the government's partial intervention in fuel cost increases, which it believes has helped maintain affordability for domestic air travel. The airline's fuel costs constitute approximately 35-40% of its total operating expenses, making it highly sensitive to fluctuations in fuel prices.
