A suspected rocket strike in Moirang Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, Bishnupur district, Manipur, early Tuesday morning killed a five-month-old girl and a five-year-old boy, while their mother was injured. The attack, attributed to suspected Kuki militants, occurred around 1:03 AM when a projectile hit the family's home, causing a loud explosion that startled local residents. The injured were taken to a hospital in Imphal, where the children later succumbed to their injuries. Manipur's Home Minister K Govindas condemned the attack on social media, labeling it a 'barbaric act' and promising justice for the victims. In response to the incident, security forces have heightened their presence in the area, launching search operations to prevent further violence. The region has a history of conflict, and this attack has led to protests, including an irate mob storming the Moirang police station, accusing authorities of failing to protect the community. In light of the unrest, several schools in the valley districts were closed as a precaution.
