Emcure Pharmaceuticals, based in Mumbai, has announced a significant price reduction for its weight management drug, Poviztra (semaglutide injection), cutting prices by an average of 47% across all dosages. The starting dose is now priced at ₹3,999 per month, a 55% decrease, while the highest dose costs ₹8,999 for a month's supply. This price revision, effective from April 3, aims to enhance patient access to scientifically validated weight management therapies. Satish Mehta, Chief Executive Officer of Emcure Pharma, emphasized the importance of improving access to semaglutide, especially as India faces a growing obesity epidemic, with nearly 254 million individuals living with generalized obesity and 351 million with abdominal obesity. The partnership with Danish innovator Novo Nordisk further supports the distribution of semaglutide in India, addressing a critical public health challenge.
