The Delhi government is set to approach the central government for financial assistance of approximately ₹35,000-₹40,000 crore under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. This funding will support the ambitious project to shift overhead power transmission lines underground across the capital. The initial phase will focus on 52.5 kilometers of lines in Chandni Chowk, with an estimated cost of ₹160 crore, aimed at enhancing safety and aesthetics in this historic area. The project is anticipated to significantly improve the visual appeal of the city while addressing safety concerns related to exposed wires. A budget provision of ₹200 crore has been proposed for the current financial year to extend the undergrounding of both high-tension and low-tension power lines to other parts of Delhi. This initiative was announced by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who emphasized the need for a modernized power infrastructure to enhance the city's image as a well-planned capital, particularly in heritage zones that attract visitors.
