A newly constructed road stretch connecting Chand Cinema to Jagraon Bridge in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, has begun to show cracks and uneven surfacing just days after its inauguration by local MLA Madan Lal Bagga. The project, executed under Special Assistance Funds at an estimated cost of ₹5.49 crore (roughly $660,000 USD), has raised serious concerns among commuters who report that the surface is already deteriorating. Many have noted that gravel is coming off in several patches, exposing weak spots, and causing discomfort while driving. Residents have expressed fears that the uneven surfacing could lead to accidents. The situation has prompted questions about the quality checks on civic works in the city, which has been facing ongoing issues with damaged roads. In a related incident, construction on ATI Road was halted due to concerns over the materials used, although officials later deemed them satisfactory. Superintending Engineer Ranjit Singh stated that samples of the road are being tested and that some work remains incomplete, including the laying of an asphalt layer, which is expected to address the minor defects observed.
