Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has instructed a thorough audit of the financial records of state-run liquor retailers, covering the last five years. This decision comes in response to concerns about potential irregularities, including improperly reconciled accounts that could lead to discrepancies and losses for the public exchequer. Delhi has over 700 liquor vends operated by four agencies: the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation, and the Delhi Consumers’ Cooperative Wholesale Store. Gupta emphasized the importance of safeguarding public funds and stated that any negligence or financial mismanagement will not be tolerated. The audit aims to establish a robust financial oversight system, including strict monitoring and validation of accounts. Agencies have been directed to reconcile all financial and operational records, and the excise commissioner will cross-check data related to sales and revenue to identify any irregularities. Gupta affirmed that strict action will be taken against any officials responsible for discrepancies.
