Following violent protests in Noida and Ghaziabad, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a revision of minimum wages late at night. The new wage structure, effective from April 1, increases monthly wages for unskilled workers from ₹11,313 to ₹13,690. The government also raised wages for semi-skilled and skilled workers, with different increases across municipal corporations and districts in the state. The protests erupted when hundreds of workers gathered to demand better pay and working conditions, leading to incidents of arson, including the burning of police vehicles. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd and reported that the violence was exacerbated by the involvement of outsiders, with several individuals detained and seven FIRs registered across police stations. Authorities are continuing to investigate the unrest.
