In Mohali district, Punjab, wheat procurement is proceeding efficiently with ₹17 crore (approximately $2 million USD) already transferred to farmers' bank accounts for their produce. District Food and Supplies Controller Varinder Kumar confirmed that payments are being made ahead of schedule, in line with government directives. So far, 9,272 metric tonnes of wheat have been procured from a total of 13,717 metric tonnes received at local mandis. The procurement has been carried out by various agencies, including PUNGRAIN, which purchased 3,058 metric tonnes, and MARKFED, which acquired 3,384 metric tonnes. A three-member team from the Government of India is also visiting mandis to collect samples of wheat affected by rain. Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, grievance redressal committees have been established to address farmers' concerns, ensuring a smooth procurement process. Farmers are advised to bring only dry wheat to avoid any inconveniences during the procurement season.
