Following five home Test defeats against New Zealand and South Africa in 2024 and 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has initiated a comprehensive plan to revitalize red-ball cricket talent. Under the guidance of VVS Laxman at the Centre of Excellence (COE), an intra-COE tournament will be held in June-July, featuring 64 top young cricketers aged under 25. This tournament aims to identify and develop players who can contribute to India's Test cricket over the next decade. Coaches and national selectors have been instructed to prioritize red-ball talent at High Performance Camps in Bengaluru. The India Emerging side will consist solely of U-25 players, who will also form India A teams for shadow tours. After the Indian Premier League (IPL), both U-19 and Emerging teams will tour Sri Lanka for four-day matches, with selections based on intra-COE tournament performances. The BCCI's focus is clear: to ensure that the next generation of cricketers is well-prepared for the rigors of Test cricket.
