In a significant ruling, a sessions court in Gurugram, Haryana, India, sentenced two cab drivers, Jatin Jadon from Aligarh and Umesh Chand from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, to rigorous life imprisonment for the murder of Sunil Kumar. The incident took place in April 2022 after a dispute over cab fare escalated into violence. Kumar, who had traveled to Gurugram for personal reasons, was assaulted by the drivers, who crushed his head with a boulder and disposed of his body in a ditch. The court's decision was announced by Additional District Judge Sunil Kumar Dewan, who also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 (roughly $600 USD) on each convict. The body was discovered on April 11, 2022, and was initially unidentified until police procedures were adjusted to facilitate identification. CCTV footage from nearby railway stations was instrumental in the arrest of the accused.
