In a significant diplomatic move, India and Azerbaijan have agreed to reset their relations after a year of tensions stemming from Operation Sindoor. Senior officials from both nations met in Baku for the 6th round of Foreign Office consultations, marking the first such talks since 2022. During these discussions, led by Sibi George (Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, India) and Elnur Mammadov (Deputy Foreign Minister, Azerbaijan), various issues were reviewed, including trade, technology, tourism, pharmaceuticals, energy, and counter-terrorism. Notably, Azerbaijan has resumed crude oil exports to India, which constitute 98% of its exports to the country. This resumption is crucial for Azerbaijan's economy, especially amid previous tensions over Azerbaijan's relations with Pakistan and India's support for Armenia. The two sides emphasized the importance of resolving differences through open dialogue, with plans for the next round of talks scheduled in New Delhi. This diplomatic engagement highlights a potential thaw in relations and a commitment to improving bilateral cooperation.
