To address a worsening energy crisis triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Bangladeshi government has decided to shorten working hours for shops and banks. Starting Friday, all shops and shopping malls must close by 6 PM, while banking hours will be adjusted to 9 AM to 3 PM. Essential services such as hotels and pharmacies will remain unaffected by these changes. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. In light of the crisis, India is reviewing a request from Bangladesh for the supply of 50,000 metric tonnes of diesel over the next four months, in addition to the 5,000 metric tonnes already supplied through the Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline. This pipeline has been a key route for diesel imports since 2017, supporting Bangladesh's fuel needs amid global supply disruptions.
